The Amazing Life of Brother Jakob

A new book tells the fantastic story of King Christian II’s forgotten brother, who became a missionary in Mexico in the 1500’s. He fought for the rights of the natives.

Brother Jacob’s Pathway in Life - from Denmark to Mexico was presented at the Knights Hospitaller of St. John House on June 28, with the Mexican ambassador to Denmark, Carlos Pujalte, in attendance.

Brother Jacob represents an important chapter in not only the history of Nyborg, but in that of Denmark and Mexico, also. The book is written by Jørgen Nybo Rasmussen, and is the result of a lifelong study of Brother Jacob’s story.

Brother Jacob was a Danish prince, brother of Christian II, and born at Nyborg Castle. He became a monk, and as such, was forced out of Denmark after the Reformation and ended up as a missionary in Mexico, where he is still remembered today for his work with the native people.
