The Old Royal Town buzzed with life and Christmas spirit during the weekend of the Christmas Market, when both the winter sun and the Christmas lights created a unique atmosphere among the many guests, visitors, vendors, musicians and Christmas elves who had come to Nyborg. On the market square, there was a bustle among the market stalls, where smells of mulled wine and apple dumplings (æbleskiver) created pure Christmas. There was the Ferry Grill, a set from a TV Advent Calendar series, TV2’s “Christmas Wish” (Juleønsket), which sold a great many hot dogs over the counter.

A whole crowd of people went to see the library’s “secret archives” of Christmas decorations and props from the TV series. The Mayor’s Yard and Nyborg Castle were in the Christmas spirit, with a record-breaking number of visitors in December, over 10,000. The fire blazed in the hearth of the Great Hall at the castle, the King’s Pantry served up delicacies, and angels (along with those fallen angels, the Christmas elves) took over the 2nd floor, where the artists’ group PT:9 showed their many works of art inspired by the theme of angels.

At the Mayor’s Yard, the Christmas forest was filled up with guests and the taproom was well-frequented, while gifts and decorations were sold and wrapped in the museum shop.
All in all, Christmas in the Old Royal Town has so far been a big success, and we will keep spreading Christmas spirit in town almost until Christmas eve.

Nyborg Castle is being restored

A significant part of the big castle project in Nyborg is a thorough restoration of the Royal Palace and of the remains of the central watch tower. A pilot project has just begun.

Nyborg Castle

A 22 m. (72’) high watch tower will again rise above Nyborg Castle. From the watch tower, visitors will be able to see the Great Belt, and the brick walls will glow after dark! On Tuesday, November 7, 2017, the approved project description for restoring and expanding Nyborg Castle was presented in the Great Hall of the castle.

Nyborg Castle will reopen in 2020

At the end of the 2017 season, Nyborg Castle will close for extensive renovations and expansion. In 2020, the castle will open again as a recreated 4-sided castle, with new exhibition possibilities.

Battle Days with a Nordic Profile
