Feel the genuine, unadulterated medieval atmosphere in the authentic setting at one of the most significant fortresses from Denmark’s medieval history.
In Nyborg we recreate the medieval court’s magnificence and vivid colours on a scale that hasn’t been seen since the Middle Ages. Come and enjoy the feel of the town as it would have been during a royal visit, when the court and all of its followers gathered in Nyborg to hold the parliament. Knights of the Northern Kingdom and the King’s Harvest Market put sights, sounds, smells and taste into history. Together they bring Nyborg’s royal past back to life.
Experience the reenactment of a medieval battle
Knights of the Northern Kingdom is an annual forum for research, teaching and training in medieval fighting techniques. The warriors clash together in a rain of arrows and to the sound of medieval cannons. There are archery contests, knights in an obstacle course, and market stalls in the authentic setting around Nyborg Castle, which is being reconstructed. We will recreate a medieval battle on The Green, where knights gather and carry out a stupendous battle, defending the castle, that is besieged with cannons.
Ever since Nyborg Castle was built in the 1100’s, and right up until modern times, it has been a militarily strategic and important installation. Here the king met with the great men of the realm to plan how the country should be ruled. When the nobles and the king met, they brought knights and pages with them as followers, who trained and entertained with their weaponcraft and war games. These prepared them for the colossal battles of the Middle Ages.
Meet the world of the knights, where you can try on a suit of armour or hear a knight tell tales of medieval warfare.
