To mark the 800th anniversary of the year the Dannebrog fell from the sky, the Mayor’s Yard is spotlighting Valdemar the Conqueror and the Dannebrog.
In 1219, Denmark’s national flag, the Dannebrog fell from the sky. To mark the 800th anniversary of the event, the Mayor’s Yard is spotlighting Valdemar the Conqueror and the Dannebrog.
It was during the reign of Valdemar the Conqueror that construction of the castle in Nyborg was completed. This exhibition looks at both the Nyborg of Valdemar the Conqueror and the myths and interpretations associated with them.
The exhibition opens on 15 June – Valdemar’s Day – at 12.00 noon.
Opening day programme:
- Welcome speech by Mette Ladegaard Thøgersen, Department Head for Nyborg Castle and Cultural Heritage.
- The exhibition will be opened by Erik Rosengaard, Chairman of the Culture and Leisure Committee.
Valdemar the Conqueror (a.k.a. Martin Stenmann) will also be present.
Samples of two new beers from Ørbæk Brewery will be served: Valdemar the Conqueror Ale and Dannebrog Ale.
